Roofline Explained

Roofline is the term used to describe the boards and accessories that form the detailing and protection along where a roof edge meets the wall of a building. The board elements are traditionally wooden, however, are now more commonly made from low maintenance uPVC.

Guttering is the shallow trough below the roof edge. Guttering has been designed to channel rainwater flowing off the roof into the downpipes. Guttering is one of the most important parts of a roofline and that is why it’s so important to have guttering fitted by trustworthy installers like White Oak. If you have your guttering badly fitted, the gutters will not cope with the volume of water and will overflow.

Fascias are the horizontal board that runs along the edge of the roof and is fixed to the end of the rafters, protecting and concealing them. Brackets to hold the guttering are fixed to the fascia boards. Plastic fascia boards come in a variety of dimensions, depending on the desired end result. Soffit boards are the horizontal boards that run along the underside of the roof. Its job is to concealed and protect the rafter ends. Installed at 90 degrees to the fascia boards, soffit boards complete the boxing in of the rafter ends. Soffit boards can be vented or non vented. Vented boards provide a means of maintaining airflow around the attic space, helping improve the thermal efficiency of a home.
